Scared Straight

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

My vivid dreams have finally scared me straight! It's amazing how your subconscious can create vivid imagery in your dreams that reflect your deepest insecurities. As horrible as my dream was it opened my eyes and got me back on a track.

Fear is a very powerful thing. Fear can evoke atrocious responses in people but it can also influence ambition and motivation. This of course depends on the individual and how he or she perceives their life and the lives of others  in tandem. That perception changes frequently throughout our lives.

My fear has always merged with my insecurity. I suppose they could almost be placed in the same category. This fear or insecurity that has become a part of me was developed early in childhood and created by my perceptions and my experiences in relation to the people I loved and trusted.

It's been very difficult for me to trust men. My love life was a constant roller coaster and I never had a stable relationship with any other man besides my brother, Omar. My fear is discovering that the love of my life has been unfaithful. My insecurity is my weight. Their correlation most likely comes from the need to always be beautiful in order to maintain the interest of my significant other. But even then, some men still stray from whom they claim to love. So the fear always remains even if I'm at my best in terms of health and vanity.

I love Troy. I trust him more than anyone in my entire life. I've been with him and lived with him for 6 years. I can say with full confidence that he has never cheated on me. And trust me, I'm a tough cookie to deal with at times and my weight has also fluctuated significantly since we met. But I know his values and I know how he was raised and his utter disgust of other men who cheat calms my predetermined nerves.

Unfortunately, I don't believe insecurities and fears simply vanish even when certainty arrives. Those two best friends lay dormant in your subconscious and in times of stress or momentous change they reappear however they can.

My dream was trying to shake me. It did a pretty good job. Although I woke up in tears, I woke up knowing that Troy loves me even more than I could possibly imagine. I also woke up knowing that I still need to work on loving myself.

So next time you have a dream that shakes you don't look for abnormalities in others. Look within yourself and peel the onion.

Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? Me of course! I am such a scardey cat. I'm a huge wimp! And guess what? I adore horror movies.

The problem is, I have very vivd dreams. Vivid dreams + horror movie = me waking up and screaming like a little girl about every 20 minutes. Ok, I might be exaggerating a bit. I don't scream like a little girl. I wake up gasping for air as if I were holding on to dear life.

I used to be able to travel in my dreams very easily. It's as if I wore my very own pair of ruby red slippers. I'd click my heels and go wherever I wanted to go. That came handy when zombies were about to eat me for lunch.

Lately however, I've been having issues with my slippers. They don't care for me anymore and I find myself lost in a sea of scary dreams. It's one after the other, non stop until it's time for me to wake up.

I watched a horror movie last night called, "The Fourth Kind." Honestly, it wasn't scary. It was just a bit disturbing. The lady who played the part of the "real" Dr. Abigail Tyler was the freakiest asset to the movie. She looked like an alien. I'm sure they did that on purpose.

I'm confused as to why my nightmares were caused by something I didn't even find frightening.

What scared me the most in my dream was the fact that my dreams mounted into layers. Each dream began with me thinking I was awake and then realizing I wasn't. So I had to maneuver or fight my way out of that particular dream in order to wake myself up. It never worked. I kept "waking up" in another dream. It was exhausting. I felt like I was in my very own Twilight Zone.

Does anyone have a pair of ruby red slippers I could borrow? No?! Well, give me some tips! How do you get out of your scary dreams?

Etsy Pounce - Wendy McMillan Prints

Like the print above? Check out www.wm98102.etsy.com

I've decided to pounce on new shops with 0 sales at least once a week.

I have to say, I have no idea why Wendy McMillan's print shop hasn't been discovered. Although there currently isn't a policy section or shop announcement the listings speak for themselves. I love her Prints so I'm okay with only knowing that she's from Seattle.

Check out her work today and who knows, maybe you'll find something to hang on your wall.

Song of the Week!

Music has always inspired me. It doesn't inspire me to make candles or jewelry but it inspires me to live; oh...and write music! Pay no attention to my grammar. I simply, don't care.

If someone can make something so beautiful out of thin air --- something's got to be right in the world. Creativity is a blessing and this week's musician is just that. His music is intoxicating and it's guaranteed to set you in an immediate trance.

I'm not here to give you a big dose of information on the musician. I'm not here to review anything. Just listen. That will tell you enough.

Creation in a Dark Pit of Sadness

Thursday, May 13, 2010

I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss certain aspects of my youth. Although I constantly possessed the mood of a tortured soul I was also consumed in never ending inspiration. It's easier to focus on the light when you're surrounded in darkness.

These several years I've lost the ability to even grasp the concept of reaching such heights. I don't listen to music like I used to. I don't watch movies like I used to. Nothing is as passionate or intense as it used to be.

The strange thing is, my inspiration dwindled the moment I found true happiness. My inspiration vanished the instant I realized that life was incredibly beautiful. Am I crazy or what?

I suppose I'm one of those artists that finds the birth of creation in a dark pit of sadness. I guess that's why I'm in awe whenever I cross paths with an artist that can portray the beauty and hope that lies within extreme darkness.

♥ The print above is titled, "The Love Letter." It was created by fellow Etsian, BestArtStudios2. For those of you who are entranced by Tim Burton movies, abstract, pop and contemporary art I suggest you check this shop out today!

I'm Such a Klutz!

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

I am officially the biggest klutz you've ever known. You see Pee Wee's face? Well that was the exact expression on my face when a load of pee soaked every single room in my apartment due to my clumsy handling of my puppy's potty patch.

For those of you don't know what a potty patch is click here. Apparently you can't pick a used potty patch up and move it to another room without drowning yourself in urine. It was a horrible experience and I wouldn't wish it on anyone! Of course, what's horrifying to me is most likely hilarious to you. So if my disgusting experience gave you a chuckle I guess it was all worth while. Eh...not really.

Warning: If you own a potty patch do not handle it with your hands once it has been used. Push it forwards with your feet until it's reached your cleaning zone.

The Pee Wee Herman print that captured my expression was made by shop owner turddemon. Click here to be re-directed to the shop.

Must be Dumb Luck

Thursday, April 8, 2010

I spent most of the day scratching my arms like a mad woman as my feet stomped on a nearly endless sidewalk of stars. The sun was blazing today and because of it my arms have an uncanny resemblance to the skin of the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Putting my sun allergies aside, I managed to goof around with my fiance's cousin while I stepped on Michael Jackson - well, not literally. I laughed with my fiance's brother as I encouraged him to take a picture of Hugh Hefner's star on the Hollywood walk of fame and I kissed my future hubby while a girl dressed as cat woman tried to lure me by her side in a freakish voice.

Needless to say, it was a fun day. My skin hurts like crazy but I suppose it was worth it. Come to think of it, I've never known of any type of pleasure to come without a little bit of pain.

That pleasure and pain gave me a tremendous amount of luck today when it came to sales. I sold 6 candles today and I already had an order of four to be completed by the end of the week. I'd jump up and down in excitement if I wasn't completely worn out. I've been promoting like crazy and I really haven't gotten much sleep. It's 5:43am right now in California and I'm blogging, updating the Pure Craft BNS thread and working on custom orders for tomorrow instead of sleeping.

I'm not going to complain though. I know that this is what it takes. This effort I'm putting in now will pay off in the long run. Luck is on my side.

Speaking of luck, I found a very cute print of a lucky Owl on Etsy today. The creator of the print, Maeve, owns a self titled shop called Maeve Donohue. You can find her under the username mirabel. She's a very talented Vietnamese, Irish American visual artist currently residing in Rhode Island.

The shop is: www.mirabel.etsy.com
